Iris is a partner of TEAM Hotel & Resort Development based in Barcelona, Spain. Together with Rafael Isún and Roger Carter she manages consultancy projects in the hotel industry covering a wide spectrum of services, for example the development of a business model, the search for operators and the architecture and interior design of hotels and resorts.
Iris brings to TEAM a truly international perspective on the travel and tourism industry. She has extensive experience of tracking and exploiting international travel consumer behaviour and market trends, which keeps her up-to-date with the very latest movements in the industry. Over the last 10 years Iris has progressed her career in marketing management and consultancy in the international tourism and media sector. She has developed and implemented marketing and communication plans for destinations and regions such as Greece, Istria (Croatia), Adjara (Georgia), Mexico and Portugal. For TEAM she undertook a benchmark study for the London Development Agency on the Cultural Olympiad in Barcelona (1988-1992).
After studying a Masters in Spanish Language and a Masters in Economics in Amsterdam, Madrid and Salamanca, Iris started her career in the Benelux office of Iberia, the national Spanish airline. It was here that she discovered her passion for the travel and tourism industry. Iris later joined the Canadian charter airline Canada 3000 where she was responsible for their launch in Holland and Germany.
In 2000, Iris moved to Barcelona where she took up a position in the launch team of Metro, the world's largest free newspaper company. As Marketing Director, Iris was involved in the launch of Metro in both Barcelona and Madrid. Iris then went on to France where she set up marketing and sales departments in Paris, Lyon and Marseille.
In 2003, Iris returned to Barcelona where, over the following three years she worked as a freelance marketing consultant, working with clients such as Hewlett Packard, Valira and Rituals. These projects all centered around the areas of marketing, communication and product innovation.
In 2005, Iris joined THR, an international consultancy that specialises in destination marketing, resort development and business consultancy in the travel and tourism industry. Iris managed international and national marketing projects for destinations and resorts. She was also responsible for the electoral campaign for the presidency of Relais & Châteaux in 2005 which led to her candidate's successful election.
Iris teaches Marketing at the Masters of Hospitality Management of EADA (Barcelona) and at the Masters Programme of Hospitality Management at Institut Paul Bocuse (Lyon). She has been a keynote speaker at the regional WTO conference, UK Inbound's Convention, and a speaker at the Cyprus Hotel Association Conference and the Egyptian Tourism Federation. She has also developed and directed training courses on 'Experiences in Tourism' and 'Marketing Plans for Destinations' in Italy and the UK. Iris is currently developing workshops for online marketing and social media.
