John is an economics graduate with 35 years of tourism industry marketing and project management experience. He has held senior executive positions with leading UK consultancy and hospitality companies (including Deloitte, Horizon Travel and Elegant Hotels) and has lead or contributed to more than 50 national and international tourism development projects worldwide.
Core skills and qualifications
John has worked on tourism destination master plans for Kuwait, St. Helena, Curacao, and the Gambia and has developed destination marketing strategies in Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Namibia, Swaziland, Botswana, St Lucia, Dominica and Jamaica. He has worked with VisitBritain, consulted on various UNWTO publications and also been appointed by the European Union to conduct international tourism development project evaluations.
John has expert knowledge in researching and preparing detailed analyses of the source travel markets or Europe, North and South America, Asia and the Gulf region. He has broad experience of market research and planning, market re-positioning, tourism product audits, destination management strategies, web design, digital marketing and benchmarking destination marketing organisations.
John has a strong background combining destination consulting and commercial experience. As Managing Director of Holiday Club International, he was awarded the UK’s highest accolade from the Chartered Institute of Marketing for ‘Marketing Excellence’.
