Mike Newman has over 20 years’ travel trade experience, of which 15 years has been spent as a consultant working with a wide range of attraction, museum and destination clients across the UK.
Mike has worked on multiple GREAT Challenge Fund and Discover Fund Projects, running stakeholder workshops, itinerary planning and launching new concepts to market.
In addition to working within the UK market, Mike also has over a decade of experience in working with tour operators in the US, Canada, Germany, Japan and South Korea, arranging bespoke sales missions and product training annually.
Core skills and qualifications
In addition to inbound travel trade expertise, Mike’s experience has included 8 years providing marketing and communications for the Group Travel Organisers’ Association (GTOA) – now known as the AGTO – and has used this to develop a thorough understanding of the UK groups market. A past Board member of UKinbound, Mike has also run workshops for UKinbound, London and Partners and ETOA on domestic groups engagement.
Mike holds both a BSC (Hons) and MSc in psychology.
Mike’s specialist areas of expertise include travel trade strategy and marketing, workshop facilitation, stakeholder engagement, tour operator engagement and itinerary planning.
Developing training materials for tour operator sales teams and product developers has become a particular passion of Mike’s and he has provided a wide range of individual and destination clients with specialist advice on developing effective sales growth.
Mike has recently launched Travel Trade Ready (www.traveltradeready.net) – an innovative platform to support small and medium sized tourism businesses looking to engage more effectively with trade buyers.
